About Dr. Smithen

Dr. Smithen is Co-Founder and Co-Chief Medical Officer of Network Eye.  

She has extensive clinical experience in the treatment of retinal disease with expertise in diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal vascular occlusions.  Dr Smithen has also served as a health care consultant and focused her studies on the intersection of business in health care. 

Dr Smithen founded Network Eye with the belief that all patients should have access to high quality retina care in a convenient, friendly location that integrates into their lives.   Dr. Smithen enjoys helping her patients understand the complexities of their retinal disease and working with each patient to formulate a patient-specific treatment plan. She believes that a physician-patient partnership is essential to achieving the best results for her patients and she is excited to bring this philosophy to life at Network Eye.

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Smithen relishes her role as wife and mother to three young daughters and her dog, Barkley. She is an avid tennis player, sports enthusiast, and an aspiring pastry chef.
