Priya Vakharia MD

Priya Vakharia, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in vitreoretinal disease management and surgery. She diagnoses and treats patients at Network Eye located in Tampa, Florida. 

Dr. Vakharia’s commitment to becoming an exceptional health care professional began as an undergraduate in The Pennsylvania State University’s Accelerated Medical Program, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general science and graduated with the highest distinction. She received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College (formerly Jefferson Medical College) of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she received an Honorable Mention for the Carroll R. Mullen Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology, became a member of both the George McClellan Surgical Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and graduated summa cum laude – in the top 1% of her class.

Dr. Vakharia’s post-doctoral training consisted of an internship in internal medicine at Lankenau Medical Center in Pennsylvania and a residency in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. There her passion for improving retinal health through research led to two Wills Eye Innovation Grants, the James Shipman Award for Excellence in Research, and the position as co-chief resident. After her residency, Dr. Vakharia completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the renowned Tufts New England Eye Center/Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. She worked in Maryland at the Retina Group of Washington prior to relocating to the Tampa Bay area. While practicing there, she was voted as a “Baltimore Top Doc,” one of the highest accolades in the area.

Dr. Vakharia is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and SEE international. She has over 35 published articles to her credit in renowned journals such as Ophthalmology, Archives of Clinical Experimental Ophthalmology, Retina, and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Vakharia has served as sub-investigator on numerous clinical trials evaluating the safety and effectiveness of therapies for eye disease, presented at a variety of major medical conferences, and participated in charitable mission trips to South America, Central America, and Africa.

Dr. Vakharia has clinics in the Palm Harbor and St. Petersburg locations.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and riding her Peloton to stay fit.
